At Future Insights Live the workshop our Art Director, Shannon, attended was "HTML5 and CSS3: At the Cutting Edge".  This workshop was taught by Molly Holzschlag, author of over 35 books related to web design and markup.

If we lost you at HTML and CSS:

• HTML and CSS work together to make up websites. 
• HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. HTML is the main markup language for web pages. HTML5 is the fifth revision of the HTML standard.
• CSS is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation semantics (the look and formatting) of a document written in a markup language.

It is exciting to see what the future holds for web development.  Previously simple things like rounded corners, transparencies and drop shadows took the use of a graphics program and the ability to put it all together to achieve the desired effect in the majority of browsers. Now great looking effects can be achieved with some simple code.

Wait!  Some browsers do not support HTML5 and CSS3.  It is important to know what browser your customers are using when they visit your site.  This is where you use your analytics to see what browsers are being used to see your site.  Once you know what your customers are using, visit www.CanIUse.com to see if the majority of your traffic can handle the CSS3 and HTML5 you want to use.
