During this period, there was a greater focus on flash, videos, and JAVA applets, not the content of the web site.

Now, we are in a time where a good web experience is the result of a balancing act between design and content. Focus is now being placed on text content, visuals and functionality.

Two extremes of modern web design are listed below:

Mostly Text Web Sites
Text only sites usually have few graphics, a plain background, and mostly text.

Positive - Sites load very quickly and relevant text content increases your search engine rankings.
Negative - Pages are not interesting to users, graphics help hold users attention and keep them at your site.

Mostly Graphic Web Sites
Graphic only sites commonly have big graphics, animation and text stuffed into small boxes.

Positive - Great looking site with visual appeal.
Negative - More difficult to navigate and a longer load time that can lose users. In some cases, text is converted to graphics. Search engines cannot read textual graphics. This type of site will negatively impact your search engine rankings.
